First Star Ñý¼§Ö±²¥ State Academy Continues to Shine in a Mixed-Learning Environment
As Ñý¼§Ö±²¥ State returns to a school year that resembles pre-pandemic times, First Star Ñý¼§Ö±²¥ State Academy has begun to imagine new programs. The Academy is a free, comprehensive four-year college access program for youth in foster care. The program engages a cohort of up to 30 students in a variety of learning opportunities, including academic support, career exploration, social and cultural activities and more.

Come join Ñý¼§Ö±²¥ State University President Todd Diacon, Ñý¼§Ö±²¥ Mayor Jerry Fiala and the Marching Golden Flashes as they celebrate the opening of the new public rink, Ñý¼§Ö±²¥ Skates, on Dec. 2 at 5:30 p.m. with music, free giveaways and, of course, ice skating.

‘Ñý¼§Ö±²¥ Skates’ Glides Its Way Into Downtown Ñý¼§Ö±²¥
The Ñý¼§Ö±²¥ and Ñý¼§Ö±²¥ State University communities can head downtown to go ice skating starting Nov. 20, courtesy of Ñý¼§Ö±²¥ Skates presented by AMETEK. This special attraction has been created through a partnership between the city of Ñý¼§Ö±²¥, the Ñý¼§Ö±²¥ State University Hotel and Conference Center, the Ñý¼§Ö±²¥ Area Chamber of Commerce, Main Street Ñý¼§Ö±²¥ and Ñý¼§Ö±²¥ State.
Public Relations Student Group Earns Seven National Honors
Ñý¼§Ö±²¥ State’s Public Relations Student Society of America (PRSSA) Chapter earned seven national awards for the work done throughout the 2020-2021 academic year, including for first time in Chapter history, two Teahan Awards, the highest Chapter honors.

Ñý¼§Ö±²¥ State Trumbull’s Care Closet Opens Allowing Students Easy Access to Various Necessities
Students at Ñý¼§Ö±²¥ State Trumbull who are in need of food, personal items and clothing will now have more support from the university following Trumbull’s Care Closet official opening on Oct. 18. Trumbull’s Care Closet was created by the 2020-2021 Undergraduate Student Government (USG) and is set up as a fund that faculty, staff and the community can donate to. It’s goal is to provide necessities for students who can’t afford them.
‘I AM FIRST’ Week of Celebration Recognizes First-Generation Students
National First-Generation College Celebration is on Nov. 8, and Ñý¼§Ö±²¥ State is hosting a weeklong celebration filled with campus-wide activities and learning opportunities to recognize students who will be the first in their family to graduate with a four-year degree.
First-Generation Student Shoots for the Stars With Mechatronics at Ñý¼§Ö±²¥ State
For senior mechatronics engineering major Delonte Goodman, the road to higher education was not the easiest. But as a high school student who caught the eye of NASA and can understand electrical and mechanical processes in everyday ATM transactions, he has bravely paved his way as a successful first-generation college student at Ñý¼§Ö±²¥ State University.
