The Bachelor of Music degree in Music is a performance degree. Students develop the skills and knowledge essential to begin their professional careers.

The Music major comprises the following concentrations:

• The Composition concentration provides preparation for graduate study in the field, a credential for private instruction and the ability to compose and use technology in a variety of musical styles.
• The Instrumental Performance concentration provides preparation for graduate study in the field; a credential for private instruction; and the ability to perform as a soloist, in chamber music and in large ensembles. This program is available on the following instruments: violin, viola, violoncello, double bass, flute, oboe, clarinet, bassoon, saxophone, trumpet, horn, trombone, euphonium, tuba and percussion.
• The Piano Performance concentration provides preparation for graduate study in the field; a credential for private instruction; and the ability to perform as a soloist, as an accompanist, in chamber music and in large ensembles.
• The Voice Performance concentration provides preparation for graduate study in the field; a credential for private instruction; and the ability to perform as a soloist, in opera, in chamber music and in large ensembles.

All students have the opportunity to explore non-western and western musical ensembles, chamber music, improvisation, conducting, pedagogy and additional music electives, and demonstrate their acquired skills in two public recitals.

Admission Requirements

The university affirmatively strives to provide educational opportunities and access to students with varied backgrounds, those with special talents and adult students who graduated from high school three or more years ago.

Admission to this major is selective. Students are required to do a program/scholarship audition. Information regarding audition days and requirements can be found on the school website, and inquiries can be sent to musicadmission@kent.edu.

International Students: All international students must provide proof of proficiency of the English language (unless they meet specific exceptions) through the submission of an English language proficiency test score or by completing English language classes at Ñý¼§Ö±²¥ State’s English as a Second Language Center before entering their program. Program Learning Outcomes

Graduates of this program will be able to:

1. Work conceptually, aurally and creatively with elements of music such as melody, harmony, form, rhythm and texture.
2. Interpret and perform music from a multitude of diverse musical styles, composers and eras through solo, small group and large group performances.
3. Work independently to prepare performances of the highest level as a performer or composer in their area of specialization.
