2025-2026 FAFSA Form

The online FAFSA form is available to all students and families, and the Department is processing submissions and sending them to schools. The paper form is also now available for students to submit.

2026-2027 FAFSA Form officially opens Oct. 1, 2025

The 2026–27 Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA®) form is in beta for early testing and will be available to everyone by Oct. 1, 2025. Students can request to join the beta testing and complete the FAFSA early to the beta.

Regardless of when a student chooses to file, the FAFSA only needs to be submitted once. Filing the FAFSA as soon as possible, through the Beta version or after the official launch, helps students receive the maximum amount of financial aid, including grants, scholarships, loans and work-study.

Here are some things you should complete before applying:

Make sure you have your Social Security number (unless you are a citizen of the Freely Associated States).
Gather your 2023 tax records (2024 tax information for the 26-27 FAFSA application)
Gather records of your assets, including any child support received; current balances of cash, savings, and checking accounts; and net worth of investments, business, and farms.
Make sure you know your contributor's information if applicable. You will need their name, date of birth, Social Security number (if they have one), and email address.
Know what schools you would like to send your FAFSA information to (if you are a high school senior) or your current school's name.

A FAFSA school code, or Federal School Code, is a unique six-character identifier assigned by the U.S. Department of Education to schools participating in Title IV federal student aid programs, used on the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) to indicate which school(s) you want to receive your financial aid results.

Financial Aid Estimator

The will help students and families estimate any federal aid they may be eligible for during the 2025-2026 academic year. Students must provide some basic financial information to help calculate the estimated Student Aid Index(SAI) and potential federal assistance. This is not the actual FAFSA.
