This academic year, Ñý¼§Ö±²¥ State Student and slam poet Damien McClendon has been leading performance poetry workshops at the Wick Poetry Center. Participants write, read, watch slam videos, and discuss the craft of performance poetry.  These workshops are free and open to the public—students and members of the community are welcome. Shanice Cheatham worked with Ñý¼§Ö±²¥ State’s College of Public Health and LaunchNET Ñý¼§Ö±²¥ State to help her company, Endemic Solutions, develop its Endemic Filtration Portable Handwashing System.

In 2009, Shanice Cheatham, who received her bachelor’s degree from Ñý¼§Ö±²¥ State University in 2013 and is pursuing a graduate degree in environmental health sciences at Ñý¼§Ö±²¥ State, was told that her father had a 10 percent chance of living after being infected with MRSA, methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus.
