Dear Porthouse family and friends,

Welcome to A Season of Possibilities.

Some associate possibility with risk—I see it as hope. Each of our three productions this season explores both, inviting us to imagine what might be, and to embrace the unknown with open hearts.

We begin with “G𲹲,” the iconic musical bursting with hip-shaking rock ‘n’ roll hits like “Summer Nights,” “Greased Lightnin,” and “We Go Together.” Set in the gum-snapping, duck-tailed world of Rydell High’s class of 1959, Grease asks: What is the possibility of Sandy and Danny finding their way back to each other?

Next, we present a concert version of “Side Show.” In this format, the full music and text are realized in a concert-style setting that highlights the emotional core of the story. “Side Show” follows conjoined twins Daisy and Violet Hilton on their journey for love and fame. Inspired by true events, this heartwarming musical explores the universal need for acceptance and the strength of the human spirit. Is it possible for the twins to realize their dreams?

We close the season with “BǴDz,” where two American travelers lose their way in the Scottish Highlands and stumble upon a village that appears for just one day every hundred years. With its lush score, live orchestra, sweeping choreography and timeless Lerner & Loewe songs like “Almost Like Being in Love” and “The Heather on the Hill,” this beloved classic is a romantic journey into a world where time stands still, and love defies all logic. Is it possible that Brigadoon truly exists? As Mr. Lundy says, “Anything is possible if you love someone.”

I hope you’ll join us for a summer of unforgettable stories, stirring music and the magic of Porthouse Theatre where all things are possible!

With Kindness,
Terri ֱ

Welcome from the Executive Producer
Tony Hardin Smiles for a photo

Welcome!

For 58 years Porthouse Theatre has provided Northeast Ohio with the best in summer theatre, thanks to the Porthouse Family, the Porthouse Foundation and patrons like you. We are also indebted to the Ohio Arts Council for their continued support of Porthouse Theatre and many arts organizations across the state.

As you enjoy the performance, please join me in extending gratitude and appreciation to the many people who have worked tirelessly both on the Joan and Rocco DiLillo Stage, backstage, and in the front of house. Porthouse Theatre is a family and exemplifies the idea that it takes a village. From the continuing efforts of David and Sherry Joy on the surrounding landscape, our incredibly generous season sponsors Art and Sherri Stehlik, to our 12-month faculty and staff in the School of Theatre and Dance.

I welcome and encourage you to come to Roe Green Center for the School of Theatre and Dance to see the fabulous Theatre and Dance productions this Fall and Spring, including Steve Martin and Edie Brickell’s musical “Bright Star” in the Fall and our RGVDS musical in the Spring, “She Loves Me,” directed by Jacob George Allen. This amazing season highlights and showcases some of the artists, technicians, staff and faculty you’ll see this evening.

And last, but certainly not least, I thank you for being here. Without an audience, theatre does not exist. It takes you to complete the storytelling. Theatre tells the story of the human condition and fosters empathy in those participating in the communal experience. It is cathartic, miraculous and a tradition since the beginning of time. Please, sit back, relax and enjoy!

Executive Producer,  Director of the School of Theatre and Dance and Director of the Hugh A. Glauser School of Music,
Tony Hardin

2026 SEASON SPONSORS ART AND SHERRI STEHLIK

It all started with a picnic table…or rather, the lack of picnic tables at Porthouse Theatre.

One day in the early 2000’s, Terri ֱ, artistic director of Porthouse Theatre, was walking around the grounds introducing herself to new theatregoers. Terri struck up a conversation with Art Stehlik, the topic of which turned to picnic tables on the Porthouse Theatre grounds and the shortage of places for patrons to sit to enjoy a meal before the show. Shortly after the introductory meeting between the two, a number of picnic tables were delivered to the Porthouse grounds, generously donated by Art.

For almost twenty years, Art and Sherri Stehlik have been proud supporters of Porthouse Theatre. But their connection to the theatre goes beyond that of a typical donor. The Lakewood, Ohio natives come to multiple shows during the summer season, bringing friends and family. And in return, they’ve become part of the Porthouse Theatre family.

The Stehlik’s first met in 1979 at work, first knowing each other as colleagues. Fast forward many years, they reconnected. In 2009, when Art and Sherri were planning their nuptials, they asked if they could be married at Porthouse Theatre. Terri ֱ officiated their wedding on stage, which was set up for the production of “The Odd Couple,” with their reception held in a pavilion on the grounds. During a 2016 production of “Sister Act,” Art transitioned from audience member to cast member, having a walk-on role as the Pope, surprising his family with his pontifical position.

The Stehlik’s are passionate about helping others and giving back, donating to multiple arts and non-profit organizations in the Northeastern Ohio community.

The Porthouse Theatre 2026 season is sponsored by Art and Sherri Stehlik.

AUTHORS

WARREN CASEY

Warren Casey was born in Yonkers, New York, and attended Syracuse University. During the late ‘50s, he learned all about “greasers” while working as an art teacher in upstate New York. He moved to Chicago in 1962, where he hoped to pursue an acting career. He appeared in dozens of productions, including creating the role of Bernie Litko in David Mamet’s “Sexual Perversity” in Chicago. He supported himself with jobs in retail, including working as an assistant manager of a chain of apparel stores, and as a record salesman. In the meantime, he taught himself how to play the guitar and began writing songs. Mr. Casey acted with the Chicago Stage Guild (where he met Jim Jacobs), the Old Town Players, and the Kinston Mines Theatre. The latter company staged the original production of “G𲹲,” which he wrote with Jim Jacobs. After the incredible success of both the musical and the movie, the two collaborated on “Island of Lost Coeds,” a musical satire of the B-movies of the 1950s. Mr. Casey died in 1988.

JIM JACOBS

Jim Jacobs, who created “Grease” (in 1970) with Warren Casey, was born and raised on the mean streets of Chicago’s far northwest side. During the golden era of rock ‘n’ roll (1956-1960) he was a guitar-playing “greaser” student at Taft High School. In 1963, Jacobs met Warren Casey when they were both cast in a local theatre production of “A Shot in the Dark.” Seven years later they wrote what was to become one of the greatest musicals of all time. “Grease” opened in 1971 in a former trolley barn called the Kingston Mines Theatre in Chicago. A year later, “Grease” made it to Broadway and “Greasemania” took off, resulting in one of the longest-running shows in Broadway history. The 1978 movie became and long remained the highest-grossing movie musical of all time. Originally an actor, Jacobs has been seen on television, in motion pictures, regional theatre, national tours, and on Broadway. He is the co-author of several other plays and musicals including “Island of Lost Coeds,” a musical spoof of the low budget sci-fi/horror/jungle movies of the 1950s, which he wrote with Warren Casey. In May 2014, Mr. Jacobs was presented with an honorary doctorate degree from Columbia College in Chicago. He currently resides in Southern California and remains active in the theatre, especially with the American Theatre Company of Chicago.

AUTHORS

HENRY KRIEGER

Henry Krieger began composing for Off-Off-Broadway in his twenties. Soon, collaborations with Tom Eyen and Broadway director/producer/choreographer Michael Bennett led to a workshop production of what was originally entitled “Big Dreams.” After several workshops, numerous rewrites, and an out-of-town tryout in Boston, “Dreamgirls” came to Broadway in 1981 and was nominated for thirteen Tony Awards (including Best Score), winning six. One song, “And I Am Telling You I’m Not Going,” became a top hit, and others became popular as well. Twenty-five years later, the film version of “Dreamgirls,” directed by Bill Condon and starring Eddie Murphy, Jamie Foxx and Beyoncé, was released and the soundtrack became a number-one album. Mr. Krieger also composed the scores to “The Tap Dance Kid” (1983-85) with Robert Lorick, and the acclaimed Side Show (1997-98), written with Bill Russell and directed and choreographed by Robert Longbottom. Oscar nominations: “Listen,” “Love You, I Do” and “Patience” for Best Original Song. Grammy awards: Cast Album of “Dreamgirls” and “Love You, I Do” for Best Song in a Motion Picture. Tony nominations: “Side Show” and “Dreamgirls” for Best Score. Henry lives in Manhattan’s West Village.

BILL RUSSELL

Bill Russell received Tony Award nominations for the book and lyrics of the original Broadway production of “Side Show” (1997). The critically praised revised version played at the La Jolla Playhouse and the Kennedy Center and received an acclaimed Broadway revival in 2014 and a London premiere at the Southwark Playhouse in 2016. Mr. Russell co-wrote the book and lyrics for Off-Broadway’s long-running musical “Pageant” and directed it in the Fringe and West End in London and at theaters around America. AUTHORS

ALAN JAY LERNER AND FREDERICK LOEWE

Alan Jay Lerner (bookwriter and lyricist) and Frederick Loewe (composer) wrote some of the American theater’s most memorable musicals, including “My Fair Lady,” “Camelot,” “BǴDz,” “Paint Your Wagon” and “Gigi.” Among their most famous songs are ‘’Almost Like Being in Love,’’ ‘’I Could Have Danced All Night’’ and ‘’Thank Heaven for Little Girls.’’ Lerner was born in New York City in 1918 and attended Choate and Harvard. Loewe was born in Berlin in 1901 to Viennese parents, made his piano debut with the Berlin Symphony Orchestra at the age of 13, and came to the United States in 1924. The two met in 1942 at the Lambs Club in New York City when Loewe approached Lerner about collaborating on a show. In 1947, they had their first Broadway hit, “BǴDz,” followed in 1951 by a second success with “Paint Your Wagon” which included such songs as “They Call The Wind Maria,” “I Talk to the Trees” and “Wand’rin’ Star.” In 1956, “My Fair Lady”, with Rex Harrison and Julie Andrews, opened on Broadway. Often called the “perfect musical,” the show ran for 2,717 performances and the cast album sold more than five million copies. Their 1958 film musical, "Gigi," won nine Academy awards and, in 1960, came the last great success of their partnership, “Camelot,” starring Richard Burton and Julie Andrews. In 1974, Lerner lured Loewe out of retirement to work on their last venture together: a film version of Antoine de St Exupéry’s “The Little Prince.” Lerner went on to collaborate with other composers including Burton Lane, Leonard Bernstein and Andre Previn. He died in 1986 at the age of 67. Loewe died two years later at the age of 86.
