Weeks of Welcome

With KSU Kickoff and the welcome week experience over, your involvement outside of the classroom does not stop! Through Weeks of Welcome that goes from Monday, Aug. 25 through Homecoming Week (Oct. 5 - Oct. 11), first-year students will have the opportunity to engage in programs, events, initiatives, and services that:

  • Develop Blue and Gold Affinity -- Generating school spirit for campus, the community, and KSU Athletics.
  • Community Involvement -- Familiarizing oneself with the Ñý¼§Ö±²¥ and surrounding community and how to get involved as a citizen. To learn more ways to get involved in the Ñý¼§Ö±²¥ community, please check out the following events calendar: .
  • Academic Success -- Preparing for academic excellence.
  • Campus Resources -- Introduce important student services and resources on campus.
  • Sense of Belonging -- Feel a stronger sense of belonging to both the campus and surrounding communities.

 

Explore KSU Pathway

Want to get more involved in Weeks of Welcome activities and have a chance at $500 and $250 merit-based scholarships, in addition to winning one of 50 Flash Plushes (pictured below)? If this describes you, then try out the Explore Pathway in KSU Engage. Through completing various activities on campus and in the Ñý¼§Ö±²¥ community, and recording them in the pathway in KSU Engage by October 17, students will be entered for a chance to win the aforementioned prizes. Week One: Aug. 24 - Aug. 30

Monday, Aug. 25 — CARES Center Welcome to Campus Iced Coffee Bar

  • Visit the iced coffee bar pop-up to connect with their team and grab some iced coffee and breakfast treats.  
  • This event will take place on the first floor of the Ñý¼§Ö±²¥ Student Center in the Hub.

Tuesday, Aug. 26 — Flash Activities Board's (FAB) Special Event: Journals and Frames

  • Join FAB in creating memories for the new school year! Come decorate a journal or picture frame to use throughout college!
  • This event will be in room 218 of the Ñý¼§Ö±²¥ Student Center from 5:30 p.m. - 7:30 p.m.

Wednesday, Aug. 27 — Ñý¼§Ö±²¥ State of Well-Being's Wellness Wednesday

  • Wellness Education around campus! Stop by their Well Hut to participate in brief activities that will help you learn about different health topics.

Saturday, Aug. 30 — Ñý¼§Ö±²¥ State Football versus Merrimack College

  • Join us for the 2025 Home Opener as the Ñý¼§Ö±²¥ State Football Team takes on Merrimack in the Home Opener. 
  • The first 2,000 fans through the gates will receive a Fearless Flash Football Flag. 
  • Additionally, we'd like to invite all Flashes 101 members to the Flashes 101 Tailgate to join other incoming students in an exclusive event!

  • Join the Public Health Ambassadors for a conversation with Robert Hakes, MPH, Ñý¼§Ö±²¥ State College of Public Health alumnus and Director of Legislative and Regulatory Affairs at Cleveland’s MetroHealth System about his career path and opportunities for public health graduates in health policy development.

Thursday, Sept. 4 — Intercultural Student Life's World Bridge - Turkmenistan

  • Come learn about Turkmenistan directly from students from there! 
  • Try traditional food and headwear, learn a traditional Turkmen dance, and color your own Turkmen carpet.

  • This event will take place from 3-5 p.m. in the Ballroom Balcony of the Ñý¼§Ö±²¥ Student Center.

Thursday, Sept. 4 — Common Ground: Yoga for Peaceful Reflection

  • Come to the KSU Commons for a group yoga flow! 
  • Held on the hallowed ground of the National Historic Landmark Site that inspires peacefulness and reflection, this 40-minute session, led by a certified instructor from the Student Recreation and Wellness Center.
  • This session will focus on the themes of kindness, compassion, and fostering an inner connection to peace.
  • This event will take place from 4-5 p.m.

Thursday, Sept. 4 — Flash Activities Board's (FAB) Grocery Bingo

  • Join the Flash Activities Board (FAB) for Grocery Bingo!
  • You will have a chance to win a variety of grocery items in special bundles.
  • Stick around for special grand prizes as well! 
  • This event will take place at 7 p.m. in room 218 of the Ñý¼§Ö±²¥ Student Center.

Friday, Sept. 5 — Fashion Show and Screening Event in Honor of Focus Feature's DOWNTOWN ABBEY: THE GRAND FINALE

  • The School of Theatre and Dance and School of Fashion present a fashion show and screening event in honor of Focus Feature’s DOWNTOWN ABBEY: THE GRAND FINALE “The time has come to say goodbye.â€
  • This will take place from 6:30-9:30 p.m. in the E. Turner Stump Theatre in the Ñý¼§Ö±²¥ Center for Performing Arts.

Friday and Saturday, Sept. 5 & 6 — Restyle: Kids Clothing Event

  • Stop by the Williamson House to grab gently used kids' clothing for the school year. 
  • These events will be: Friday, September 5, 2025 from 3 - 7 p.m.; Saturday, September 6, 2025 from 9 a.m. - 12 p.m. 
  • Donations of preloved clean, new, and gently used all sizes of children's clothing, shoes, and outerwear will be collected from August 1-29. 
  • Collection boxes are available during business hours at the Williamson House, Library, Child Development Center, and Philanthropy and Alumni Engagement. 
  • Open to Ñý¼§Ö±²¥ State faculty, staff, and students. You don't need to donate to participate in the event!

Saturday, Sept. 6 — Adventure Center's Outdoor Rock Climbing

  • Just opened in the fall of 2023, West Branch offers great beginner-friendly climbing. The fee includes transportation, equipment, meals, and instruction.

Monday, Sept. 8 — Office of Global Education's Study Abroad in a Flash! Winter, Spring Break, and Summer Short-Term Programs

  • Interested in studying abroad and looking for a short-term program (1-3 weeks)? Join us to learn about the exciting Winter Break, Spring Break, and Summer programs available to you! 
  • These programs are perfect for everyone from Freshmen to Seniors, and several options are open to all majors!

Tuesday, Sept. 9 — International Admissions' Flag Cookie Decorating

  • Where are you from? Where do you want to go? International Admissions wants to know your story! Come tell them by decorating a cookie with the country flag of your choice. 
  • Plain sugar cookies and color frosting will be provided in Van Campen Hall, Room 111 (from 10 a.m. - 12 p.m.). 
  • Bring your friends, decorate cookies, and share what you're looking forward to when you study abroad, while supplies last!  
  • This annual event is a chance for students and their families to enjoy food and music, in addition to student organization and local business tabling.
  • Also, enrolled Ñý¼§Ö±²¥ State University students can receive a free event-shirt as supplies last!

Tuesday, Sept. 9 — College of Public Health's 2025 Education Abroad Showcase - Health Immersion in Geneva, Switzerland

  • Learn about the 2026 Global Health Immersion in Geneva, Switzerland program. This is a unique opportunity to spend two weeks in May in beautiful Switzerland exploring health priorities, policies and practices from a global perspective while soaking up new cultural experiences. 
  • Particularly relevant for students in public health, nursing, medicine, podiatry, nutrition, allied health, pre-health (medicine, dentistry), environmental sciences, biological sciences, anthropology, international development, and international relations.

Tuesday, Sept. 9 — Office of Global Education's Grow Your Career in Asia: Bamboo Planting

  • Pot your own bamboo plant and learn about internship opportunities in Asia + a scholarship up to $6,500 for Summer 2026! 
  • Participants will receive a pot, soil, and a bamboo stalk to plant. They can also decorate their pots with paint.

Thursday, Sept. 11 — Office of Global Education's KSU Freeman Fellows Internship in Asia Info Sessions

  • Learn how to receive up to $6,500 to intern abroad in Asia in Summer 2026! 
  • We will review the award application process and internship programs options in Japan, South Korea, Singapore, Malaysia, Vietnam, and Thailand. Freshmen - Junior-level students are able to apply!

Thursday, Sept. 11 — Office of Global Education's First Time Traveler: A Guide to Going Abroad

  • Thinking about studying abroad and worried about not having much (or any) travel experience? From deciding which education abroad program is the best fit for you to applying for a passport, deciding what to pack, navigating airports and more, join the Education Abroad team for tips and resources to prepare you as an adaptable and organized first-time traveler. 
  • Whether you've never left your hometown or have traveled before and you're looking for some extra guidance, we're here to help!

Thursday, Sept. 11 — Adventure Center's Introduction to Climbing and Belaying Clinic

  • This two-and-a-half hour program covers the basics of indoor climbing including equipment, bouldering, top rope climbing, and belaying with an ATC and Gri-gri device. 
  • This program sets up an individual with no prior experience to take our belay test which is required when purchasing a climbing wall membership.
  • Cost:$4.
  • This event will take place at the Student Recreation and Wellness Center climbing wall from 5:30 - 8 p.m.

Thursday, Sept. 11 — Adventure Center's Pool Beginner Kayak Sessions

  • New kayakers can come learn kayaking skills. Participants may bring their own boats via the loading dock stairs and back entrance as long as the boats are FULLY CLEANED before entering the pool. 
  • If you don’t own a boat, one will be provided for you to use. 
  • Contact adventurecenter@kent.edu with any questions. 
  • Pre-registration IS REQUIRED by the Wednesday before each program.

Friday, Sept. 12 — Office of Global Education's First Time Traveler: Get the Scoop on Ñý¼§Ö±²¥ State Florence Summer Programs

  • The Ñý¼§Ö±²¥ State Florence Center has amazing opportunities for students to spend their summer living and learning in Florence, Italy. 
  • Grab a scoop of Gelato and get the scoop on all of the great programs offered including the Florence Summer Institute, Florence Health Institute, and the Hospitality and Event Management Practicum. 
  • Participants will have the opportunity to connect with professors who will teach in Florence, students who have studied in Florence in past summers, and staff from the Education Abroad office who can answer any questions about the experience.

Friday, Sept. 12 — Flash Activities Board's (FAB) Black Squirrel Festival

  • There is no better way to kick off the fall Parents and Families weekend here at Ñý¼§Ö±²¥ State University than FAB’s Black Squirrel Festival.  
  • This annual event is a chance for students and their families to enjoy food and music, in addition to student organization and local business tabling.

Friday, Sept. 12 & Saturday, Sept. 13 — Parents & Families Weekend

  • Mark your calendars for a weekend packed with unforgettable moments and exciting family-friendly events. From beloved Ñý¼§Ö±²¥ State traditions to special programming designed with families in mind, there will be countless opportunities to celebrate with your favorite Golden Flash student. And yes, football is back! Don’t miss the action as the Golden Flashes take on the Buffalo Bulls!

Saturday, Sept. 13 — Ñý¼§Ö±²¥ State Football versus University of Buffalo

  • Join us for Parents and Family Weekend as the Football team takes on Buffalo. 
  • The first 1,000 fans through the doors will receive a Black Fearless Flash Football Hat. 
  • Additionally, all fans are encouraged to WEAR BLACK for the Blackout.

Saturday, Sept. 13 — Adventure Center's Outdoor Stand Up Paddleboarding

  • We will be going to West Branch State Park for a beginner-friendly stand up paddleboard float. 
  • There is beautiful scenery, wildlife, and fresh air to take in while on the water. 
  • We will provide introduction to paddleboarding before we get on the water, going over lake safety, paddling strokes & more!

Sunday, Sept. 14 — Adventure Center's Day Hike at Cuyahoga Valley National Park

Tuesday, Sept. 16 — Counseling and Psychological Services' Leaves of Hope

  • At this tabling event, located in Risman Plaza, students can create leaves on a tree that have messages of hope and positivity for suicide prevention month.
  • This event will take place from 12 - 2 p.m. at the Risman Plaza.

Tuesday, Sept. 16 — Recreation and Wellness Services' Yoga Glow Workshop

  • Come shine with us! Get ready for a cozy, creative evening that soothes your soul and lights your glow - inside and out. 
  • You’ll start by mixing and pouring your very own custom-scented candle, choosing fragrances that reflect your vibe. 
  • While your candle sets, you’ll roll out your mat and flow through a relaxing, multilevel yoga class. 
  • Expect gentle movement, mindful breath work, and a whole lot of good energy. 
  • Whether you’re here for the scent, the stretch, or the shine, you’ll leave glowing from head to toe.

Wednesday, Sept. 17 — COLLEGE OF EDUCATION, HEALTH AND HUMAN SERVICES' Social and Resource Fair

  • Did you know EHHS has offices and centers that support your education? Stop by the EHHS Social and Resource Fair and check out the services and resources they offer. (ex. 3D printing, free digital and video camera rental, free counseling, tutoring, etc.). 
  • For each resource you visit, your name will be entered into a raffle. 
  • Begin in room 200 White Hall (Read Room), where you will receive a list of locations. Then grab some popcorn and popsicles to enjoy as you explore White Hall.
  • This event will take place from 11:30 a.m. - 1:30 p.m.

Wednesday, Sept. 17 — Office of Global Education's Cultural Café

  • During each Cultural Café, speakers from different cultures give a short presentation. 
  • Topics often include traditions and culture, history, geography, government, art, music, theatre, food and more. 
  • In addition, the presenting students often include demonstrations of traditional songs or dances, while actively encouraging audience participation.
  • Country Showcase: Pakistan.
  • This event will be in room 218 of the Ñý¼§Ö±²¥ Student Center from 12 - 1:30 p.m.

Wednesday, Sept. 17 — Recreation and Wellness Services' Rec the Row

  • Recreation and Wellness Services will be hosting a resource fair on the K (Risman Plaza) to promote programs and offerings to members of the Fraternity and Sorority Life and general Ñý¼§Ö±²¥ State University community.  
  • Hope to offer a fun mix of informational and interactive experiences to participants!
  • This event will take place from 4 p.m. - 6 p.m. at the Risman Plaza and Student Green.

Wednesday, Sept. 17 — College of Public Health's Career Series - Meet a Public Health Professional in the Food Service Industry

  • Cedric McMickle, Senior Manager, Total Quality, with Darden, a nationwide food service corporation with ownership of multiple restaurant chains, and a College of Public Health graduate student, discusses his career path through public health and private industry.

Thursday, Sept. 18 — Design Innovation Initiative's Fix-It Ñý¼§Ö±²¥

  • Got something broken? Don’t toss it—fix it! Join DI for Fix-It Ñý¼§Ö±²¥, a hands-on repair workshop where experienced coaches will help you repair your everyday objects, saving you money and keeping waste out of landfills. 
  • This free community event is open to anyone looking to fix household items, electronics, clothing, small appliances, and more. 
  • Whether you're tackling a wobbly chair, a torn jacket, or a gadget that’s stopped working, our volunteer repair experts will guide you through the process.

  • There will be a plethora of prizes, fun to be had, and food from Grill '72.

Friday, Sept. 19 - Sept. 21 — Adventure Center's Hocking Hills Camping Trip

  • Want to explore Hocking Hills State Park in beautiful southern Ohio? Join us in some hiking, exploring waterfalls, and camping while it’s still warm out! 
  • Hocking Hills provides a variety of recreational opportunities in a splendid natural setting. Towering cliffs, waterfalls and deep hemlock-shaded gorges lure the hiker and naturalist and serve as a backdrop to popular facilities and accommodation.

Monday, Sept. 22 — National Hazing Prevention Week's Billy Boulden: ForCollegeForLife Keynote Speaker

  • You Don’t Have to PROVE Anything is an empowering program that helps students and organizations create cultures of belonging while eliminating harmful practices. 
  • Drawing from his experience in athletics, fraternity life, and student leadership, Billy shows audiences that members are enough as they are and that healthy culture is the key to unlocking both individual and organizational potential.
  • This event will take place from 5 p.m. at the Kiva Auditorium. 

Monday, Sept. 22 — National Hazing Prevention Week's Chalk the Block & Paint the Rock

  • Join FSL as we chalk campus & paint the rock to spread awareness for NHPW to #StopHazing!

Monday, Sept. 22 — Recreation and Wellness Services' Plant and Grow Yoga Workshop

  • Get grounded, get creative, and grow something beautiful - inside and out.

  • This simple yet powerful activity highlights your commitment to a healthy, inclusive community. While participating, you will also learn about hazing prevention, university policies, and how to recognize and report hazing.

Wednesday, Oct. 1 — The School of Theatre and Dance Presents "Ñý¼§Ö±²¥ucky"

  • Ñý¼§Ö±²¥ucky By Leah Nanako Winkler Directed by Courtney Brown Hiro is a self-made woman making it in New York. But she is also single, almost thirty and estranged from her dysfunctional family who lives in Ñý¼§Ö±²¥ucky.
  • When her little sister, a born-again Christian, decides to marry at twenty-two, Hiro takes it upon herself to do whatever she can to stop the wedding and salvage any shred of hope she had about her sister’s future.

  • The annual Ñý¼§Ö±²¥ State University Homecoming Parade will take place from 10:30 a.m. - 12 p.m. this year on on Saturday, October 11.
  • The route will start at the KSU Ice Arena and will proceed onto Loop Road and then Summit Street towards campus. The parade will conclude at the intersection of Summit Street and Terrace Drive.
  • The parade is both a Ñý¼§Ö±²¥ State University and City of Ñý¼§Ö±²¥ event. This is a great opportunity to bring awareness and show pride for your organizations!

Saturday, Oct. 11 — Ñý¼§Ö±²¥ State Football versus UMass

  • Join us for the Homecoming Football game against UMass. 
  • The first 1,000 fans through the gates will receive a Replica Powder Blue Football Jersey. 
  • Additionally, fans are encouraged to wear their POWDER BLUE gear.
