Housing Assignments

We have 24 residence halls with more than ten different room configurations. In all residence halls we are committed to fostering a community where every student feels safe, supported, and empowered to thrive!

With over 60% of on-campus housing setup as double rooms, it should be no surprise that a signature experience of living on-campus is having a roommate. Students who live in private bedrooms within a suite or apartment still have shared living spaces or shared bathrooms.

Learning to live in a community, communicating one’s needs, and navigating conversations (that at times can be difficult!) are critical skills enhanced by living on campus. We work with students to build a strong, inclusive, and connected community where all individuals are valued and supported.

Room Assignments

Students will self-select their room during designated room selection times provided by the Housing team. When selecting a room, students should consider location, price, and hall program offerings like living-learning communities. Students who are not sure where to begin should ask us – we are here to help!

Room assignments are based on the sex indicated on a student's application for admission to the university. While this is our standard practice, we recognize some students prefer to live with someone of a different sex than their own. Students who would like this option can contact us at housing@kent.edu, indicating they are interested in a ‘co-ed’ room pairing.

TWO important notes regarding co-ed room assignments:

  • Romantic couples are not encouraged to live together

  • Placement of roommates of the opposite sex may not be available in some locations because of bathroom configurations.

Finding a Roommate or Suitemate

No doubt, there are dozens of ways students find their roommates or suitemates. We listed the four most common options that our incoming students use to find their roommate.

Housing Application

The housing application has a section entitled Roommate Matching Questionnaire. Your answers to these questions are compared to others in the database, and you will be shown other incoming students who have compatible answers. The higher the score, the higher the compatibility.

Random Roommate Assignment

Let the housing application do the work!

Students who do not self-select a room will be assigned a room and/or roommate randomly. The application system will use the information from the Roommate Matching Questionnaire to assist. We encourage students to answer questions honestly!

Room With Someone You Already Know

Already have a roommate match? Simply follow the directions for selecting a roommate.

ZeeMee

The ZeeMee app allows you to connect with other students, make friends, and expand your social network prior to starting classes at Ñý¼§Ö±²¥ State. Within the app, students can participate in chats with students who have similar majors or hobbies. Most of the incoming class is on this app, so it is a great way to meet other incoming Golden Flashes – and to help select your roommate! ZeeMee is a third-party app and not maintained by Ñý¼§Ö±²¥ State University, although there are Ñý¼§Ö±²¥ State staff members who utilize the app to assist students with questions.
