Online Master of Science in Business Analytics requirements

Master of Science in Business Analytics degree can help prepare you for a rewarding career, giving you the essential knowledge and skills you need to analyze and compile data, make informed business decisions, and add to the success of an organization.

First, though, you have to gain admittance to a worthwhile program, and that entails following the online MSBA requirements a university has outlined and creating a robust packet of materials designed to help you succeed. Read on for some essential tips.

Compile Your Transcripts

Thankfully, the first online Master of Science in Business Analytics requirement you need to tackle is quite simple: securing your official transcripts from any higher education institution you have attended. These transcripts should be on file with your school, though you should keep the following in mind:

  • You will need to possess an accredited undergraduate degree for admission to an MSBA program, so ensure that your transcripts reflect this
  • Your transcripts will need to be legally translated if your school’s originals are in a language other than English
  • You will likely need to pay a small fee to obtain your transcripts

Prepare Your Written Materials

The next online MSBA requirement is producing the written documents a school will ask to be included in your application packet, specifically a résumé and a goal statement. These documents help to show an admission committee who you are as a person, a student, and a professional, so you will want to take care in crafting them. Here are a few tips:

  • A school’s committee will often use a résumé as a baseline for considering a candidate’s academic abilities, career progression, and accomplishments
  • On this latter point, you should include measurable accomplishments, such as certifications or awards you have received, along with promotions and added responsibilities
  • Customize your résumé to adhere to the values and ideals of the university you are applying to, incorporating terminology that matches that of the institution
  • Your goal statement (or personal essay), meanwhile, should highlight both your immediate and future goals and how the program you are applying to will help you attain them
  • You will also want to state your reasons for pursuing an MSBA degree and why the specific university is a good fit
  • To give a sense of yourself and your journey, you will also want to relay challenges you have overcome, accomplishments you are proud of, and how you believe you can contribute to the school and the program

Get Strong Letters of Recommendation

As you work through your Master of Science in Business Analytics requirements online, you will need to get in touch with current or former professors, supervisors who know your work, bosses, and others who can speak to your character and abilities. A few pointers to consider:

  • Be sure to choose recommenders who know you well and who you have a good rapport with, as you will want your letters to be complimentary but also authentic
  • Help your recommenders by giving them details about yourself and your professional and academic career that they might not be aware of, so that they will have plenty of material to work with
  • Give your recommenders time to compile their thoughts so they can produce quality letters – five or more weeks is usually recommended

For Non-native Speakers: Demonstrate Your English Language Skills

Non-native English speakers will need to demonstrate their language abilities as part of the online MSBA requirements, so if this applies to you be prepared to take the necessary steps.

There are a variety of tests available that cover English aptitude, which include TOEFL iBT, IELTS, PTE, and DET. Review information from your university, or reach out to their staff, to determine which tests may be most appropriate.
