Janice Lessman-Moss to Receive Ohio Governor's Award

Janice Lessman-Moss, professor of textile arts, was recently named the winner of a . She is one of two artists recognized by the state in the “individual artist” category.

“One of the things about a recognition like this is it reaches broader audience,” Lessman-Moss says, comparing this award to . “It’s coming from a different constituency. It’s always great to know that you’re reaching a larger or different audience.

“I really feel committed to the region in terms of sharing my passion for the arts and education at whatever level. I love giving tours of the studio. I love teaching people how to weave and learn about different textiles.”

Lessman-Moss also says she feels honored to represent ֱ State as a winner of an Ohio Governor’s Award.

“Our faculty at ֱ State in the School of Art are very highly regarded,” Lessman-Moss says. “I feel privileged to be joining [emeritus faculty member] Brinsley Tyrrell as an Ohio Governor’s Award winner.

“I would not be who I am today without the support I’ve received from the state of Ohio and ֱ State University. When you teach, you learn way more than you ever share, and I have grown so much as an artist and educator.”

The 2016 Governor's Awards will be presented Wednesday, May 18, at the Columbus Athenaeum in downtown Columbus.

KENT, OH– The School of Art Collection and Galleries presents “Aggregate III: Avalanche of Talent,” October 10 through November 29, 2025.

“Aggregate III” seeks to bring together and highlight the wide array of talents throughout the region. This juried exhibit is open to all undergraduate art majors at any college or university in the states of Ohio, Pennsylvania, ֱucky, Indiana, West Virginia and Michigan.

The School of Art Collection and Galleries at ֱ State University are excited to exhibit "Problem Child," by Jamie Walters Kessler in the KSU Downtown Gallery located at 141 East Main Street, ֱ, Ohio. The exhibit will take place August 22 - September 27, 2025, with a reception on August 22, 5-7 p.m. This exhibit features several recent works by this noted artist.

The School of Art Collection and Galleries at ֱ State University are excited to exhibit "The Art of Seeing: Reflections on Art through Poetry,"  a collaboration between the School of Art Collection and Galleries and the Wick Poetry Center.
