Ivory Kendrick, a senior public health major with a concentration in health administrative services, has always believed in the power of understanding and connecting with others. Born and raised in Ravenna, Ohio, Ivory grew up with his father, who instilled a deep respect for education in him. In 2020, Ivory faced a devastating loss when his father passed away from a heart attack. At the time, he was still in high school and unsure of what the future held in store, but he knew he wanted to make his father proud. College became the natural path for Ivory, and he initially considered a nursing career.

As he explored public health degrees, Ivory realized many of the challenges people face in healthcare come from the system itself. This inspired him to pursue public health policy, with the goal of creating an impact that could improve systems and help more people at once.

“I feel like I can really help people more through public health than just me helping one single person at a time,” he explained.

Ivory’s college experience has been guided by both his academics and leadership roles. As Undergraduate Student Government student body president, he has worked to cultivate a sense of community within the College of Public Health. His involvement has also given him a clearer understanding of the diverse paths this discipline can offer, helping him explore ways to make a significant impact on the world around him.

Scholarships played a crucial role in Ivory’s journey, providing him not just financial support, but also a reminder that others believe in his potential. Reflecting on his success, he acknowledges the people from Ravenna who supported him along the way, along with the classmates, faculty and staff who have shaped his ����ֱ�� State experience. Ivory also had a special message for the donors who contributed to the scholarships he received.

“Thank you for just believing in another human being, even if you don’t know them and what their future will hold,” Ivory said.  “At the end of the day, I think that’s what we need more in the world - believing in each other.”

Graduating in May 2026, Ivory credits his achievements to both his dedication and the community that has inspired him. Through leadership, education and gratitude, he demonstrates that belief in one another can change lives, just as it has changed his.
